Today saw more S swell with bomb sets in the 8ft face range on occasion. The we lost a couple rippers in Quinn McCrystal and Alain Riou. We still have players remaining.

Rnd of 144

Heat 10.Wiggoly surfing powerful on the backhand.
Held the lead from start to finish.

Heat 13.Alejo getting better health wise and still ripping turned his heat with a consistent bag of flair and solid combo’s.
You can see he likes the waves in HB!!

Heat 14 Quinn McCrystal got caught inside by 2 separate 8ft sets and paddled most of the heat.

Heat 17 Alain Riou looking for a 6.7 in 3rd just missed out with a 6.03…..heartbreaker!

Heat 18. Joan Duru & Kiron Jabour
Joan straight dominated the heat with fast and powerful backhand hacks and reo’s. Looks really good and fit! Kiron hung in 2nd with good wave selection and smart surfing.

Heat 24 Julian Wilson has been riding a Dane Reynolds Proton model the last couple times he’s surfed and has been ripping, actually made the Jr final on it. Opened up w a huge frontside punt, landed it but wobbled at the bottom. 2nd was 6.0 on a shitty right-hander then nailed another right, blow tail into s late whitewater close out hit…..reformed it into a wrap around to vicious rail gouge in the shore dump for an 8.0…..from 4th to 2nd. Ian Walsh went off and threw down a 7.17 and a 9.0 to win.

Done.

Tomorrow is the chicks.

US Open of Surfing Days 1-3

Day 3

Day 3- lost some soldiers today- the girls LeeAnn Curren and Sally Fitzgibbons had shockers in their heats but still have the Womens event to go. Super tricky low tide S. wind and chunky w/ tons of current along with 3-6ft SSE swell made it difficult and luck played a huge factor on the low tide.

On the Jr side- Kiron lost in similar “couldn’t buy a wave” conditions. Quinn McCrystal went to town and advanced with Julian over current ASP N. America’s #1 rated surfer Cory Arrambide in the QTR and then lost in the Semi’s where he also “couldn’t buy a wave.” But this result is huge for him in the North American ASP Jr point standings….he ripped all week.

Riding the high and making a return to the podium, Chris Salisbury and Julian Wilson in a repeat of their Nike 6.0 Jr Final a few weeks ago. They both had the mojo flowing and no doubt Julian is the hands down favorite to take the $.

On the US open Mens Trials side- Marzo had a shocker in the Qtr while Alejo went to town making it into the heat draw with the bomb scores. He is a warrior as he has fever and a gnarly cough….Billy Hopkins and his dad took him to the hospital to be looked at. Hopefully nothing serious as I’ve had no news yet?

Our Oahu Logger Ned Snow also made the Longboard final

Day 2

Day two saw great surfing from our QS riders. In the Jr- Julian Wilson of course blew up. Joan Duru held the single highest wave score of a 9.4pts. Quinn McCrystal used local knowledge to easily dispatch the overpaid grommets Kolohe Andino and Evan Geiselman although Evan held onto 2nd. Critta Salsibury did just enough to move through and Alejo Muniz clearly has the confidence and ability to win the whole thing coming off his ISA World Games victory. We lost Balaram to poor selection along with Tyler Newton.

Over in the Mens US Open side of things we lost Big Peter Mel to an in form Clay Marzo who dropped a mid 7 and a 9 something.…big tail whips and carving 360’s. Im not sure if there was any strategy involved but when this kid gets a wave, the fireworks start flying…along w/ big scores! Alejo Muniz went 18.33pts and is looking unstoppable…no doubt as to why he is the current U18 Champ.

The girls are surfing in their first appearance in the Jrs but I split after the boys Jrs.… LeeAnn Curren and Sally Fitzgibons should be making appearances either today or tomorrow.

Day 1

US Open/ Honda Jr Pro- it was a good day with the exception of Clay losing in the Jr to an in form Kiron and Dylan Kowalski bowing out to an advancing Balaram Stack.

Tyler Newton ripped all day in both the Jr and Open as well as the standout in the opening 2 waves of the Battle of the Brands which QS made the final and was just pipped at the post by O’neill.

Standout performances were had by Kiron, Julian, Tyler, Sally Fitzgibbons in the teams event, Peter Mel and Clay Marzo in his US Open Mens heat in the afternoon which he smoked his competition. Also turning heats were Joan Duru and Chris Salsibury. Alejo will be up next tomorrow.
